PHYSICAL MEDICINE PROVIDED BY ORANGE COUNTY’S TRUSTED NAME IN HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

Jan Carlo Zegarra, DC

Chiropractic Physician

I am the chiropractic physician at the St. Joseph Hoag Health Wellness Corner. I love helping to restore people to good health and giving them the tools to stay well. I bring expertise in chiropractic medicine, physiotherapy, exercise rehabilitation and nutrition, and I have worked with patients of all ages and fitness levels. I have extensive experience with athletes, including professionals in the NFL, NHL, MLB and UFC.

I understand what it’s like to be in pain and have less-than-optimum health. As a former professional volleyball player, I was derailed by a back injury that took me out of my sport. After working with a chiropractor, I got well enough to get back in the game. That experience motivated me to pursue chiropractic medicine.

In my area of expertise, I focus on understanding the root cause of a problem and utilize a variety of manual therapy and exercise techniques to accelerate recovery and prevent injury from occurring again. I advise my patients to take active roles in their health and wellness. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in physiology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. I also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences and my Doctor of Chiropractic (summa cum laude) at National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, Illinois.

In my spare time, I enjoy playing and coaching volleyball, and being outdoors with my wife and two sons.

Rachel Bellows, PT, DPT, OCS

Physical Therapist

I am the physical therapist at the St. Joseph Hoag Health Wellness Corner at L.A. Fitness. As a former collegiate water polo player and high school coach, I recognize the importance of maintaining optimum health through exercise and nutrition, and understand the frustration that comes with being derailed by an injury. I’m excited about being part of a team of experts committed to helping people feel their best through a variety of therapies and services.

My interest in physical therapy began as a student at Pitzer College, where I majored in Human Biology and played water polo for Pomona-Pitzer. Sports, which had been a big part of my life growing up, continue to be important to me. I was fortunate to complete my internship treating the Cleveland Indians minor league players while completing my Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Columbia University. While sports rehabilitation continues to be a strong interest of mine, my time at Stanford Health Care as an orthopedic physical therapy resident allowed me to broaden my expertise to helping patients with movement patterns and function through development of specific treatment plans based on their goals, whether that’s getting back to the soccer field or playing with grandchildren.

Outside of the clinic, I enjoy hiking and spending time in the ocean, either surfing or body surfing, with friends and family. I volunteer for the Life Rolls on Foundation in Huntington Beach during its annual summer event.

I bring 16 years of acupuncture experience to my role, and I treat a variety of health conditions including pain management, stress and emotional conditions, women's health issues, digestive conditions, post-surgical support, and cosmetic acupuncture.

I earned a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Waterloo, an honors degree in acupuncture from The Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences, and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Southern California University of Health Sciences.

Samantha Mueller

Physical Therapist Assistant

I am the physical therapist assistant at the LA Fitness Wellness Corner Irvine-Crossroads. You could say that you’re in good hands with me because I’m responsible for the Bodywork massage program. This service is more than just massage for relaxation. It’s an important therapy that many health providers recommend as part of post-surgical and even neonatal programs. Other people use Bodywork to relieve medical conditions such as stress, chronic pain, inflammation, and muscle and joint injuries. Additionally, Bodywork can help with mental health and detoxification.

I also provide the physical therapy follow up appointments and carry out the plan of care of the physical therapist. The physical therapist and I work as a close team to provide exceptional care to all our patients.

I believe that there are many ways to assist my patients on their paths toward natural healing. I am trained in a variety of Bodywork techniques, including myofascial release, soft tissue mobilization, trigger point release, effleurage and reflexology. I work closely with my fellow health care providers and clients to select the right course for their care.

Before coming to the Wellness Corner, I helped provide physical therapy to people with Parkinson’s disease, stroke, cerebral palsy, pulmonary concerns and pelvic floor problems. I have experience with strength and endurance training, balance and gait training and other physical therapy techniques. I have witnessed firsthand the effectiveness of a wide range of physical and natural healing techniques.

I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology from California State University, Fullerton followed by earning my physical therapist assistant degree from Stanbridge University, graduating summa cum laude. I am a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). In my spare time, I enjoy doing community service, spending time with my family and being outdoors.
